“Mosaic” Works

“Mosaic” Works *

Recently, I have focused my work through a form of “Mosaic” effects in my art to create blended colours through fragmentation. I am experimenting with different lengths of rectangles and having certain focal points, solid/non-fragmented.

These paintings represent a fragmented view that I have of the world, my identity and mental health. Sometimes, we give a shattered, incomplete mindset about the way we do things in society.

Vice”

18×24

Acrylic on Canvas

This painting began as a sketch in my sketchbook, I intended to embody the feeling of anxiety and the stress of life along with the feelings of turning to a vice. The swirls are meant to represent the dazed mindset and controlled chaos that life can turn into.

Fragmented Identity”

20×24

Acrylic on Canvas

This piece is a self portrait, fully fragmented. The color of this piece is meant to show all the beautiful culture I see all around me, inspired by the colors of a Ghanaian Mosaic artist named El Anatsui. Though I have some Ghanaian background I am often wondering where I fit in when it comes to my culture.

I find there is a lot of pride surrounding culture in a lot of my family and friends, feeling somewhat diluted from this can make certain things hard to navigate especially when the question “what is your background” comes up.

Shattered Environment”

16×20

Acrylic on Canvas

This painting is meant to represent the way that the digital age and environmental issues have played a role in the way that we, as a society, look at pristine parts of nature.

These parts of nature, like the Arctic, have been affected by society, and I chose to show this through my mosaic technique, which can sometimes feel pixelated and include blocks of neon, almost “poisoning” the pristine, calming blue environment.

Shattered Vision”

16×20

Acrylic on Canvas

This piece was the first in the series, which created the idea of capturing everyday moments in a representational manner while also exploring expression surrounding the way we look at things.

The way the world is we can often feel incomplete or as separated parts of what can be a symbiotic beautiful working system.

This painting was created from a reference photo I took of some cows in field, which I saw driving home on a rainy day. The rural areas in Ontario hold so much beauty that is often overlooked if noticed at all.
